Sara Ross’ Archisuits allow one to merge with specific architectural structures. The bench piece especially is a big F U to “UN-usability” engineering. The homeless will surely be pleased with this bum-proof bench counterstrike. I will also be needing one next time I have a long layover at the airport.

The bench design below was originally created to allow rotation after a rainstorm for dry seating. I think if we want to be more big brother about this whole public seating thing we should install a 1 hour timer for automatic rotation to prevent loiterers and seat hoggers.

I’ve ruined a handful of dates by allowing the topic of meat-eating to come up. I have no idea why I get so emotional as I love vegetables as much as I love the fragrant remains of animals… I guess that’s not really obvious when I am constantly stuffing my face with steaks, sausages and ham but I assure you my addiction is more for sodium and nitrate. I came across MEATPAPER and it satiated my inner fleischgeist. It is NOT a journal for vegan haters as its name might suggest. Rather, it holds an ambidextrous point of view: it’s about mankind’s response to meat…. and there are so many ways of responding to meat. Like this ground chuck font by Robert J. Bolesta. So meaty…

Our instinctual reaction to extreme psychological trauma is to turn into a human Popple. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns where I find myself assuming fetal position under the covers in the walk-in closet amidst a forest of winter coats. Now there’s something better: The HideAway. Will certainly come in handy… though it probably also makes you an easy target for being kicked.

This squished bug is making poor Asimo feel like an invalid. BigDog can even take and recover from abuse. Imagine having one on a leash…. escorting me to the MacArthur bart and carrying my purchases of the day. Sigh.

The computer hood was ingeniously crafted by Joe Malia as part of his “Design for the Computer Obsessive” project. This product reinforces and amplifies one’s engagement with the computer, successfully blocking out reality. Features of this digital enclosure include:
-Soundproof and light-blocking material
-Speakers embedded in hood
-Zip on underside of tunnel for visibility of keyboard and mouse (though this will probably be more often used as a porthole for feeding during marathon WOW sessions)
-A voice activated microphone in the back of the hood which records audio from the outside world and saves it as mp3 files in a folder on the desktop.

Though some obvious benefits include undivided attention, as well as privacy, Joe claims the product was created as a visual metaphor which makes the invisible (barrier) visible. He hopes the product will highlight the strong bond the computer obsessives have made with their machines and conjure a series of self reflection. This product is not compatible with laptops, though Joe has made other technology connectors for PSP and cell phone addicts.

I often find myself annoyed with the mis- and/or over- usage of irony. Try playing a game of apples to apples without noticing the tendency of irony exercised as cynicism/quirkiness/intelligence/depth. The irony doesn’t represent anything… and it has as much meaning as when kids announce “it’s opposite day!”. Don’t bother calling them out, they will play the postmodern card (i wasn’t trying to say what you thought i was going to say and i’m not saying the opposite either… in fact i wasn’t trying to say anything at all… well that isn’t the point of the game now is it?)

How about this 8 minute long Korean music video? The point was to jab at that romantically tragic soft spot in your brain via the same methods as O Henry’s Gift of the Magi. However, all it accomplished was trigger the evaluation of
- the feasibility of an eyeball transplant
- the goals of SECRET self sacrificing acts of love.
I would say this displays more idiocy, unrealistic fantasy, pointlessness… at best immense bad luck…. than irony.

This reminds me of the time we were forced to learn the recorder in elementary school. I took my newfound useless skill #484629 home, donned on some colorful tights, and had my way with it via “what is a youth” from the 1968 romeo and juliet movie… I played with such passion drool dripped profusely through the recorder. It is crazy how such simple melodies can drive one to madness.

Speaking of wasted musical know-how, maybe I can pick up the cello again. I would never have abandoned it if I knew playing standing up along with the incorporation of headbanging was allowed.

If there were some sort of android takeover, I’m sure I’d be the first to surrender. Cyborg conversion? Pick me! I’m completely yielding when it comes to gadgets taking over my life. There are exceptions though…. Like paper bound pocketbooks and agendas. I can never give those up. I’ve tried making to-do lists on my phone or PDA but my brain has learned not to take those seriously. They aren’t real till they’re inked in.

Voila! Genius! Make sure to use a non-smudge pen!
